Anesthesiologists are licensed physicians according to the American Society of Anesthesiologist (ASA). They can also be seen as medical doctors (MDs), and they can be seen as doctors of osteopathic medicine (DOs).Their main responsibility is to make sure that they administer anesthesia to patients making sure that the proper anesthesia is helping to relieve pain so that all of the patient’s vital signs are managed and functioning well. When surgery is over, Anesthesiologist also have the responsibility of making sure that the patient is comfortable in the time they are recovering. They also perform provisional care in critical care medicine in the intensive care department.
Before getting started in any surgery, all anesthesiologist usually go and speak to the patient and create a good pre-op assessment plan making sure that they are well prepared for the patient and their medical condition. Anesthesiologists are going to make sure that they choose the right anesthetic for patients based on factors such as the patients medical health, what kind of medication the patient is taking, and also the kind of surgery they are in.
Because they have received specialized training in medicine, all anesthesiologists make medical decisions that are completely related to anesthesiology. All anesthesiologists have the duty to monitor and maintain their patients in a state that is controlled and where they are not conscious so they are providing pain relief for patients. Anesthesiologists primary concern is making sure they are taking care of all of the patients needs while they are unconscious and undergoing surgical, obstetrical and whatever medical procedure in which their skills are needed for the patient.
After all surgeries where anesthesia is involved, all anesthesiologists are going to need to monitor the health of all patients as they are coming through the effects of anesthesia. Anesthesiologist are also involved in making sure their patient remains stable, and they are also involved in the care of pre-op pain, chronic pain and even cancer pain. They bring their skills in the event of necessary cardiac and respiratory resuscitation, blood transfusions and they are also involved in respiratory therapy.
A lot of anesthesiologists mainly work in hospitals and surgical outpatient centers for pre-op and post-op care, and this is according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. The environment that a anesthesiologist works is lit well and should always be very sterile, and they are going to be standing for long periods of time.
Most anesthesiologists who work in the United States have obtained their 4 year undergraduate or college degree in addition with their pre-med requirements. They have also gone and completed 4 years of medical school, and there are a lot of medical schools that give six year programs to well academic graduates of high school. The only unfortunate fact about this is that these six year programs you have students completing their pre-med clinicals in the first 2 years and the remaining years is mainly for coursework. Because of the fact that there are more surgeries being performed every year, there will continue to be a high demand for anesthesiologist year after year.
