Anesthesiologists are licensed physicians according to the American Society of Anesthesiologist (ASA). Anesthesiologists are going to make sure that they choose the right anesthetic for patients based on factors such as the patients medical health, what kind of medication the patient is taking, and also the kind of surgery they are in.
Because they have received specialized training in medicine, all anesthesiologists make medical decisions that are completely related to anesthesiology. All anesthesiologists have the duty to monitor and maintain their patients in a state that is controlled and where they are not conscious so they are providing pain relief for patients. Most anesthesiologists who work in the United States have obtained their 4 year undergraduate or college degree in addition with their pre-med requirements. The only unfortunate fact about this is that these six year programs you have students completing their pre-med clinicals in the first 2 years and the remaining years is mainly for coursework.
